Humanities' visceral need to create is the main focus of my current work. This has led me to explore primitive art, natural phenomena, and tool making processes as a source of inspiration and content. The feelings and effects of rawness, intimacy and subtlety are what i've been responding to, as well as the beauty of randomness, irregularity and chance.
Seeing the effects of a craftsman's hand in a piece (like a finger print on fired clay, hammer marks on metal, or chisel marks on wood) is like vicariously experiencing an act of creation. In this minimal way the pieces take on the essence of a hand made tool, harkening back to a part of our shared human history.
